{Magic of the Mundane}

Today, I am joining Sofia over at Sofia's Ideas for Magic of the Mundane. I so love this idea because it totally falls in line with my desire to get back to simple. It can be a picture, a poem or song, a short video or anything else that celebrates the Magic. So often, we get caught up in "where we're going" that we forget to look at the beauty of "where we are."

Slightly off kilter, but that's my family.  This picture is sort of a tradition.  Every year, we line the kids up at my in-law's house and take a picture.  My boys are the ones in the green shirt and blue shirt. You can see my sister-in-law in the reflection of the door.  We got together for Easter, as we have every year.  This has been going on since before Car Guy and I ever started dating. As time has passed, the group has gotten larger...now the kids are getting larger.  Soon they will be off at college, but we'll still get together at Easter and there will still be lots of food and laughter and family.  There is so much magic in family and spending time together. Hearing laughter and squeals of not so little children running around outside. And knowing that the foundation is there, as well as the friendships, and these gatherings will continue even after we are gone.

  1. So glad you celebrated with family! I love family photos and your family is beautiful. My children and my sister's are studying at college and I look at them in wonder-where did the time go?

  2. Those traditional photos are so great aren't they? With the same people and location, but everyone just keeps getting older and older. Magic, indeed. :)

  9. Your boys are sooOOoo cute! Family is the best, isn't it? It's kind of neat that my son has taken over hosting the family for dinners.. it does make me happy to think that our boys will keep the family togetherness going. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  10. "And knowing that the foundation is there, as well as the friendships, and these gatherings will continue even after we are gone." Oh, man - that went straight to my heart. I actually felt a little tug as I read that last line.

    I always think about this, and I try to relay this to my children as much as I know how to - about the foundation they are building in their relationships with one another. I sometimes fear what it could turn out to be, because I do see that one of my lovies struggles in her communication with her siblings. I try to get her to understand, but her understanding only ever lasts for so long before she goes back to her usual ways of interacting. *sigh*

    I also love that you have this tradition of taking this picture every year. I always wanted to do that but never started so I always thought "it's too late now". Sheesh! Do you have the yearly pictures in a collective frame? I would love to see that!

    And as always, Melissa, thank you so much for your contribution to {Magic of the Mundane}!

  11. Love the photo! And I totally agree... family is at the core of everything, isn't it? I'm happy for you that you have this family tradition. I'm sure your kids will appreciate the effort you went to to get everyone together to eat and enjoy each other.
