I've been away from this space for a bit. I've missed it. But sometimes we have to pick what we can do without for little bit and get done what we need to get done. This summer if flying by. I'm trying to grab hold of it with both hands and it keeps slipping through my fingers. But there are a few things that I am enjoying.
One of them is watching my oldest son turn into a man. Watching him have intelligent conversations with adults and holding his own with topics like politics and the economy. Listening to him debate a topic while listening respectfully to someone else's point of view and arguing against it thoughtfully and maturely. Then turning around and watching him chase his three year old cousin across the yard with unmasked glee and tossing him in the air when caught...oh those giggles make my toes tingle with giddiness! Then watching him struggle to show his father that he is growing up and does have a valid point of view...that is such a struggle for his dad as well...letting go of his little boy. It all melts my heart and breaks it at the same time.
I've also enjoyed spending time with great friends. Lots of late night laughter, great food and wine and a support group that can't be beat. I have been truly blessed by the friends I have...always there with a joke, a smile, a glass of wine and a hug...and occasionally a few felonious suggestions that put everything into perspective.
But the thing I've enjoyed the most this summer is the time with family. We have been deeply immersed with visits - both coming and going and it has helped ground me during all this change....and then.....
One of my adorable nieces. |
Such wonderful things to be enjoying. Being immersed in family is a wonderful way to spend the summer. Enjoy.
ReplyDeletei don't blame you for being away! time with family is precious and should be enjoyed :)
ReplyDeletesnuggle that precious baby!
What an adorable little snuggle-baby! And in such beautiful and colorful handknits! Time with family trumps all else, in my opinion.
ReplyDeletesuch sweetness. all of it. seeing young boys become young men is extraordinary. I love the description of your son. hugs
ReplyDeletelife is good---and you've got a beach trip!!! life is great!
ReplyDeleteIt's so good that you are watching your son and seeing him mature - and good that you are writing it down, as I can't remember seeing those things when my sons where that age. :-) One thing I do know, is that you think you won't have to worry about them once they're married and "settled" but that is not true. Now I worry about their health and the grandkids and the DILs! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteFamily is what it's all about Melissa and it sounds like you are enjoying yours to the fullest. Summer is flying by here too and I really do wish it would just slow down!
ReplyDeleteOh yep, the weather here is super humid and hot, I am running just at sunrise...and having a blast! Would you give that little darling a hug from me? I miss holding babies.
So glad you're getting that time to visit!
ReplyDeleteIs your oldest reaching for that glass of wine!?!? ;) Kidding!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing these beautiful words about your boy... um... young man... with us. You should be one proud mama!
All wonderful moments well spent. It sounds like you've raised quite an amazing young man.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the summer... as it does go by so very fast.
It sounds like you are doing exactly what you should be doing... enjoying life! You are an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you! My summers tend to be filled with family visits. I love it! When does your son head off to school? Have you started the big shopping yet for it?
ReplyDeleteThat's one cute baby!
ReplyDeleteoh, very soon i will also be able to snuggle up with my new niece! i'm so happy for you!
ReplyDeleteher outfit is adorable, i wonder who made it?
Oh my, I felt a little tug on my heart as I was reading about your son... all I can say is that I can only hope that I feel that same pride when all of mine reach that age. To be able to sit back and watch that unfold, to see all of your guidance and parenting come to fruition in such a way... *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your back and thank you for this contribution to {Magic of the Mundane}.
